Airlines, airplanes and other kerfuffles

That’s tame. Real tame for aviators.

I have seen some doozies. Another of that same demo team is "Floater." I can imagine how he got that. But that's probably one of the funniest--and longest--I have seen.

Probably my fave is "Poopy Pants."

The entire Growler Demonstration Team:

Pilots:
Team Captain LT Kevin “Lil Sebastian” Lynch
LT Abigail “Wrecking Ball” White
LT Hardy “MyDal” Davis
LT Nick “Alf” Eckhardt

Electronic Warfare Officers:
LT Allyssa “La Niña” Olsen
LT Tim “Floater” Mcaloon
LT Samir “Stuka” Patel
LT Keith “Yertle the Salty Sea Turtle” Henzer

There are plenty of other videos out there, but I'm only using this one because the relevant footage is at the beginning. You can search or whatever and probably find better video. A Gulfstream G200 crashed in the Dom Rep, killing both pilots. No others were onboard. What looks like a belly landing is the result of a hard landing removing the main gear.

I haven't followed this very closely, but saw a video from another angle and the mains were down. Not sure what exactly they were dealing with but it's unfortunate they didn't/couldn't put it on the runway. That sucks.

I saw one angle where it looked like they hit the runway at a sharp relative angle and rolled off with the mains separating shortly after in the grass. It was kind of hard to tell where the POI was specifically.

It looked like they might survive, though pretty banged up, if it didn't hit that building or whatever. The ILS glideslope maybe?

It looks like the jump plane was a PAC 750XL with the PT-6 engine. Engine failure of some form on takeoff. Speculation is the pilot made a turn to land on a nearby road and didn't make it. Low speed low altitude turns usually end in a crash. You're losing airspeed and speed is what you need in a turn because your stall point increases.

Engine failure at a low altitude was my greatest worry as a skydiver because the odds of survival are miniscule.

I'd be comfortable bailing on my reserve as low as 800 feet if the A/C is flying steady enough to get through the door - below that - the seat belt is just there to help you survive the crash long enough to die in the fire.
...but engine failure right after take off, ain't NOBODY getting out of that bird in all of the chaos

Interesting to see where this goes. The PAC-750 is usually quite the reliable airframe.
