A daring joint raid on Thursday morning into an Islamic State prison in northern Iraq, carried out by Kurdish and U.S. Special Forces, and backed by American airstrikes, has resulted in the freeing of approximately 70 hostages and the death of one U.S. serviceman.

After the raid, military officials claimed that the raid was executed after Special Operations forces received word that that the hostages were about to be murdered, and that “a mass atrocity was averted” by the operation.

Prayers out to the one who entered Valhalla during this operation.
