We were with ODA 515 and 561 and 2nd acr not sure who everyone else was though brother. But here is the rest of that scene.View attachment 35182
The soldier nearest the camera has the FLARNG patch. back then..

Hmm, the ADA unit, troop command, 631st Maintenance company, 260th MI, and maybe a few others outside of State HQ (the transpo and med company) would have worn that patch.

Units with their own SSI back then:

53rd BDE
146th Signal (fuck those guys)
SF

Unsure:
The engineer company in Lake City and the Cav troop out of Ocala.

All of this is from memory when I last paid attention to the FL Guard around '04. ADA sent...one (?) BN to AFG in 04-05. The 631st didn't deploy until 08-09. The 146th shitbags didn't go anywhere until 08-09. MI did a trip or two to Iraq. The 53rd was the main element with the JSOC invasion of Iraq (and boy do they think they are special); their next trip saw them escorting convoys from Kuwait.

2004 with PSYOP and SF? My money's on the MI BN.

The timeframe also means the 1LT had about a 50/50 shot at being in my OCS class (Captains were usually promoted in 3 years, not 4 like today).

Maybe something under 50th ASG before they changed the patch. Some of them were in Iraq back in the '09 timeframe.

Edit.. DCUs.. don't think we were wearing them past '05? So would be with the 124th or 20th group right?
See above.

The Army did away with them and only had the Black for Rangers, Green for SF, and Maroon for airborne. Looks like the past is repeating itself.
Actually, the Army got rid of the maroon berets for airborne, as well...I was in the 82nd when we first started wearing them in 1973, but around 1978 everything but the green beret for SF and the black beret for Rangers were not authorized...when I got to the 509th in 1979, we were wearing baseball caps...I think the airborne were permitted to wear the maroon beret again around 1981...by then, I was back in SF...

I arrived to the 82nd in the fall of 1983 and the senior unit guys still talked about the division formation where they donned the berets again.

When I went to Campbell in 76, as 1st Sgt of B 3/187th, the 101st were wearing a Navy Blue Beret. When I first signed into the Div I was asked if I were still Airborne. I had just came back from Korea so told them it had been awhile since I had jumped. They said they were assigning anyone that had been on jump status to the 187th incase the Div decided to have a unit go Abn. Unsure when they got rid of them because I got reassigned a year later.

I say we go back to the old Green Service uniforms, BDUs and DCUs, stop wearing a “duty uniform.”

The rest of the Army has a Crye style “field” uniform like we do- no badges, no tabs on or unit designations on shoulders- just an IR flag and a call sign on the “top,” and if you have some sort of tab, you wear that on your PC.

In the spirit of uniformity- do away with all berets. Fuck it. Everyone wants a beret? Cool. No one gets a beret. Tabs and DUIs will be how you ID special units, end of the day- we are all soldiers, let’s leave it at that.

Anyone notice the Marine Corps still wears the same set of greens they did over 60 years ago. And on it you have no idea what MOS the Marine may have. Of course if they are wearing aviator wings or the combat diver badge and jump wings you may have an idea. On the field uniform all they have is rank.

and you see what happened to them, down sizing!

seriously, always gave the USMC credit for staying classy with their uniforms, I feel like going back to the WWII uniforms is a good step for the Army.
