Huh.

From what I’ve read, this has been around for many years. Difficult to believe true, but…

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE ARMY HOLIDAY BLOCK LEAVE

Each holiday season the Army shuts down basic training and advanced individual training schools. The Army is the only branch of the military that honors the Holiday Block Leave for all recruits who are in basic training. This allows the drill sergeants and instructors to have a break during Christmas and prepare to come back for the New Year ready to train.

Truthfully I can see how the Army and other services could make the Holiday leave work; likely the Drill Staff appreciate the time off as well…plus LOTS of fuck-fuck games for the recruits when they return.

I have to wonder…what percentage don’t return and go AWOL ?

Can’t see if working in Marine Bootcamp. Too much by the numbers indoctrination- can’t just pause and reset 2 weeks later.

I got to go home from basic for Christmas back in the 80s. It wasn't hard to go back because I wanted to be there. My many veteran family members would've drug my ass back anyway. IIRC almost everyone else came back too.We were more afraid of going to Leavenworth than being back at BCT.

Didn't you post years ago that you were in boot camp during Christmas and for entertainment you got to watch Goodfellas? Or am I thinking of somebody else.

Not me, but I have a buddy who is a boot over Christmas and they “kind of sorta“ left them alone on Christmas Day, but then made them pay for it on the 26th.

We did get to watch full metal jacket during Boot Camp, and then got “destroyed“ When somebody cheered after gunny Hartman took the bullet.
