Or "Don't Let Strippers Raise Funds for Navy Balls." You will get relieved of command as a result.

Capt. John P. Heatherington was relieved of his command of the Naval Ordnance Test Unit at Cape Canaveral, Fla., Tuesday by Strategic Systems Programs Director Vice Adm. Terry Benedict and received non-judicial punishment after a command investigation determined that golf tournament fundraisers for the annual Navy Submarine Ball solicited adult-entertainment establishments, among other businesses, for funds.

A friend of mine served under Capt. Heatherington on an Ohio-class boomer. He said the Navy has lost a good leader over this.

I don't understand?

ETA: I now understand read the Admiral Bio, one sea tour then nothing but shore assignments. He seems to be a perfumed princess.

If those businesses had gay pride flags, no one would have cared.

So a legal entertainment spot gets put on a mass mailing list of contributors to an annual golf tournament. Said tournament is a benefit for their best source of customers (local Navy boys), and the CO and master chief get fired?

That's a ridiculous reason to ruin someone's career. If the Navy doesn't want some of their own payroll back then just have that business taken off the list.

That sounds like a pretty tough environment to operate in.

Scrutinized under a microscope where any minor detail has potential to be a career ender for the politically less connected.

What's the end result?

Senior leadership that looks like the dictatorships we laugh at?

Perhaps the super-upper-echelon is a bit trigger happy now in response to the wave of Commanding Officers doing dumb shit.

I file this under "who gives a fuck".

I don't see it as detrimental to good order and discipline, as long as the clubs contributed cash and not free lap dance vouchers or the like.

As @Dame already stated, the clubs are legal businesses and should not be treated differently from a sandwich shop or bowling alley. The exception would be if a particular club had been placed on the off-limits list, but there's no mention of that in the article.
