I was a civvy then, working EMS. My county had one of the two burn centers in NC, and my bus transferred some of these patients from the small, private local airstrip to the hospital (to be admitted to the burn or surg-trauma ICU). UNC Hospitals had multiple Blackhawks orbiting, waiting their turn to land and offload.
