The state of California DOC is in the process of hiring 7000 new officers. Veterans get an additonal 10 points hiring perference. The benefits, medical, salary and retirement are excellent. The State of California Corrections, Paroles, Special Agents and Special unit officers are all "State Sworn Peace officers". The CDC-R is one of the very few sworn US prison agencies with off duty concealed carry rights. They are largest Corrections department in the United States (bigger than the Federal BOP) having in excess 28k officers and 200k Inmates. The retirement is "Cal-Pers", paid Holidays, Shift dif, Education pay and special incentives. Promotion is rapid and there are numerous special details, assignments, posts and defering postions.

The CDC-R CRT special teams strength is approx 500 under the DOJ EOU/OCS split into 31 geograpical sites. As well as other special units; Fugitive apphension, Investigative Services unit, Gang Unit / Task Force, SSU-LEIU, Paroles and numerous special Federally assigned Task force posts.
