Great to see this story finally come out and shine the light on the ignorance towards mental illness among law enforcement that still lingers. It's great that Corporal Barrett getting the recognition he deserves for his bravery that day but even better that he's getting help and is back on duty.

Aside from all that, his story shows the complete mess that Parliament security was at the time.

Canada's loneliest hero: Why you've never heard of this RCMP officer who shot the Parliament Hill gunman

Lost his dog and his G/F bails on him on top of everything else. Nice to see him rise above all that mess and finally get the recognition he deserves.

What I found most interesting is that when first reading the article I thought it was about Vickers (Sgt. at Arms whom everyone is aware of) and had to start again when I finally figured it out. I give credit to the author as it would have been very easy (even unintentionally) to make the tone of the article about how Barrett was bitter because Vickers got all of the attention and exposure. Very pleased that that was not the case.
