There was briefly a fusion of jazz and blues. John Mayall did it successfully but his effort is less well known, which is strange considering the people who he had at his disposal and played in his bands. The following is a good example of jazz/blues fusion. Can you pick the cognoscenti in the crowd?

..and the epic D chord progression.

Cream, The John Mayall Blues Band, Little Feat (with a Dixie twist), early Led Zeppelin, early Argent, the Band and a slew of lesser known groups all put their picks to the Blues-Jazz fusion scene. When successful, it's great, but it can get muddy, messy and over complicated at times. You chose a couple of stellar examples though.

Oh, yeah... Stevie Ray Vaughan was just working on some stellar Blues-Jazz fusion stuff just before the plane crash. one great example is Riviera Paradise...

and his treatment of Hendrix's Little Wing...

and Lenny...

Good days in music there. That Cream live recording of crossroads sounds amazing.
