Simple Civilian

Thank you for having me, and for an awesome site. I've been lurking for quite some time. I decided to sign up because, occasionally, I would like to ask a question.
I am a lifelong civilian, no military experience, but there are veterans in our family. Lifelong association with veterans has informed my perspective on the insights, observations and opinions of active duty military members and veterans. I honestly cannot understand why the opinions of "the boots on the ground" (or the eyes in the sky, or the ears underwater, etc.) are not sought out more often. Who better to ask than the people who are doing the actual work in the actual environment?
That's how I found Shadowspear and this forum- I was using Google Fu to research some current event topic or another (can't even remember which one now) and I ended up on a forum thread on Shadowspear. I've been following the forum ever since. Whenever some new geopolitical event hits the news cycle, this is one of my stops on the webs to get perspective from "the boots on the ground."
The tone here is quite civil and I find the discussions intelligent, informed and enlightening.
And some of your avatars are hilarious. My compliments. :)
I have logged three decades in health care, over three decades married to my college sweetheart, raised two sons and we all lived to tell, and I am now retired and eating bon bons. Many and varied interests and experiences that I'm sure will reveal themselves over time and participation in the forum.
Other than that my only qualification for being here is that I am second in command pack leader to THE BEST DOG IN THE WORLD EVAR. And if that isn't qualification enough well

(I know, I know, Send Picture of Dog.) :)
