How's it going everyone, I am currently at the DLI getting ready to take the DLPT in MSA and get out of here(finally) currently have orders for 5th SFG as a SOT-A or will have a chance to be on a SOT-A(because I believe there will probably be an assessment and selection course when I get there, we'll see) but either way I am seriously looking forward to this job or this career path and the training and tough times involved as well as being with like minded, driven individuals that don't accept the minimum standard. Just a little about me, I enjoy PT (preference for crossfit and the like) , political discussions, learning, etc.

Welcome to the site. I'm glad to hear that there is a selection/assessment process for SOTAs (finally), I'm disappointed that it's not a universal process for everyone heading to Group.

Well as far as I know there hasn't been one officially implemented but I've heard from my PSG here at the DLI, who was a SOT-A team leader before he came here, that there is one in the works and that some groups run their own anyways. Isn't the SOT-A position a little more strenuous than the rest of the support members heading to group though? That's my understanding just based on what I've been told, so in that case is essential for SOT-As? Still a little fuzzy on the position over all.

Nobody is going to go into detail about the specifics of the job here. You'll find out if/when you get to Group. There is more than enough info floating around this board and the web to answer how strenuous the job can be. You say you want to be a SOT-A, then show me you can go out and gather/collect information.

However, I will throw you a bone. Go research on the Army Security Agency (ASA) and the SOD's (Special Operation Detachments) . We (SOT-A's) are the direct descendants of the USASOD's, there is a book titled, "Top Secret Missions" that talks about their history/exploits, now go read.
