Hey guys, Tandem here, I am a college student looking to pursue a career in the military. College has been anything but and average experience, more of a wild ride, as has been my career choices. I played soccer my first year at a private Division II school. I then transferred to a large state school to continue my college career. I then left school for a year to pursue a career in the military... needless to say, it did not pan out. Fast forward another year, I am back in school trying to become an energy trader as my father was. I continued to try to force out the urge of wanting to try to join the military again throughout the year, however come spring semester, I started speaking to recruiters again.
At first, I was speaking to Marine Corps officer recruiters that were around my campus. I was intrigued at the way it was explained, almost like you went to a Marine Corps officer 'summer camp' and then if you made it, you then went to basic after graduation. Maybe I misunderstood, but shortly after I decided that I did not want to be an officer. Most recently I was denied an 18X contract due to the fact that I was prescribed ADHD medication, I tried to get it waived because I have been off of it for two years, but there was simply no way possible due to the restrictions of the contract. I go to speak to the Marine Corps recruiter, because I figured if I were to spend time in a traditional unit before entering the SOF community, I would rather spend it in the Marine Corps, than the Army. Not a knock at the Army, just a personal decision I have made due to the information I have received from friends in both branches. So in my process now I am just waiting, the Marine Corps recruiter said come October he will be able to offer me a 'Recon Contract.'
I know there is a long hard road before I enter the community, but for now I'll just take it one day at a time considering I am not yet in the military. I've read a ton and still have a few questions for some of you CSOs and Recon Marines out there, but I'll save those for the appropriate time. My ultimate goal would probably be to try to make it into the ranks of MARSOC, but until then, I'll take graduating from boot camp first. I appreciate all the time you guys put into this website, and all the gentleman/women that post on behalf of their experience, seriously such a great resource.

Thanks,
Tandem

P.S. I'm sure some of you are wondering why my first attempt at the military did not work out, I would be more than happy to explain to genuine individuals, I just figured for now it would be best left alone.

Welcome to SS. Sometimes, the hardest thing to do, is to settle in on a target. After that, things will begin to fall into place. Best of luck to you.
