Hey guys,

First off, I just wanted to thank all of you past and present military for your service, and the great info on this site. I'm a 22 yr old, recent college grad with a BS in biology. I had PRK(eye surgery) this past June and am currently in the 1 year waiting period (Air Force, at least) before enlisting. I have been lurking around the special tactics site for a while, and going Pararescue has been my goal for some time now. I have an EMT-B certification, but haven't used it yet...not much time left for volunteering between training and working a full time job. Besides Pararescue, I've also been looking heavily into the Special Forces 18D. I'm very much drawn to the idea of working in a larger team, providing care and emergency medicine to my guys and to foreign countries. Don't worry I won't ask which is better. I'm here so I can make a well informed decision, but I realize that only I can make that decision. Thanks for reading all of this if you made it down here. If any 18Ds would be willing to talk about their experience, I'd love to hear it, or if y'all could make make some reading recommendations, that would be great too.

Welcome to SS. Nice intro, and I wish you the best that good fortune can bring you. You mentioned working, and having EMT-B cert, but not using it. Are you working as an EMT/rescue, or something else? Just curious, and again, welcome to our site.

No sir, currently working as a lab analyst for pharma company. I put in a couple applications to volunteer at nearby fire stations and ems services this summer, but no luck. Need to follow up on that soon. My original plan was to volunteer as an EMT and train for a solid year, but a good job presented itself, and my family needed the financial support, so I went with it. Working has only made my desire to join up even stronger. Anyway, thanks for the kind words everyone. See you on the other side.

Sounds like a pretty interesting position within the med/pharm world. You are likely very aware, that you will need to log some active EMT hours so you can maintain your proficency as an EMT. There are some very active EMT pros here that you might want to touch base with, outside and seperate from this intro thread. Thanks for the reply. Again, welcome, and good luck.

Eh, its more like a chemistry sweatshop, I don't see it as a future for myself. I am on their medical response team though, and they will pay for continuing education credits, so its not too bad of gig. Thanks for the heads up on the EMT pros here, I'll keep an eye out for them.
