Verified Military
Hello,
My name is Funky and I am a current Air Force 2T2 drilling reservist. I started my military career in 1995 as an active duty Hull Maintenance Technician with the Navy. Left active duty in 1999 at the behest of my wife. Due to some life changes and the fact that I never wanted to get out I entered the Navy reserve 2010 with the intent on going back active duty. Well the year group put the breaks on that as I was 2 days short and no waiver were being given.
So a friend said "Come on over to the Air Force! They open active up to prior service every October". Well that sounds good... Let's give it a swirl. So I take an under manned career field (2T2) with the hopes of getting back on active duty..... WRONG! Well not entirely.
This where things get interesting. I have always wanted to be in the Special Forces. So in 1992, after talking to my Navy recruiter about jobs I started training for BUD/S.
Long story short during the prescreen phase at Great Lakes I was medically disqualified due to injury. The med disqualification 2 year wait to retrain was waived and once I was healed I could try again. So I took my HT "A" School, got stationed in Groton as a pipe welder, met wife one and the dream seemed to fade away.
Enter the Air Force and the TACP career field. A guy in my unit said "Funky... the Air Force has openings in TACP & CCT! You should check it out." that was two months ago. My 368 is in, I have been training for 2 months and feel very confident that an old dream will come true.
So that's my story thus far. Thanks to all the military members on this form for your service to our great country and I hope to get some useful advice and support from you all.
