http://news.soc.mil/releases/News%20Archive/2010/April/100413-03.html HUNTER ARMY AIRFIELD, Ga. (USASOC News Service, April 13, 2010) – Lady Night Stalkers of 3rd Battalion, 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne), were recognized for their volunteer efforts during a ceremony here April 8. This ceremony, conducted during National Volunteer Month, was an opportunity to recognize the many people who support the unit’s Soldiers and Families. In addition to 38 spouses, eight individuals outside of the unit were also recognized. “The goal of the dinner was to create an event where the entire Family could see spouses and local civilian supporters receive proper recognition for the support they give the unit on a daily basis,” said Lt. Col. Kirk Keepers. Each volunteer received the battalion Southern Belle Award certificate of appreciation in recognition of their outstanding service. Volunteers do everything from family readiness training and support, to organizing special events for spouses Families and single Soldiers, to supporting Families during a time of need. They also volunteer in the local community. “Our volunteers have very positive and enthusiastic attitudes,” said Cindy Keepers, battalion family readiness advisor. “They are committed and go over and above what they are required to do.” For many of the volunteers, that commitment comes from the unique bond formed among the spouses of a highly deployed unit with an often undisclosed mission. “The women of the 160th are unique within an already exemplary group of military wives,” said Shannon Graham, a company family readiness leader. “The women of this unit endure constant deployments and arduous schedules all while maintaining commitments in their everyday lives. (They) give a great deal of themselves and when called upon give even more.” Ginger Cucolo, first lady of the 3rd Infantry Division, said the commitment these volunteers show to one another, their Soldiers and the community were no surprise to her. “The Army attracts a wonderful type of patriotic, caring and selfless volunteer who doesn’t quit – and your motto of Night Stalkers Don’t Quit is a perfect match for you.”
