Late intro

Didn't realize posting here first was a requirement. So here I am!

You are expected to indtroduce yourself fully. You could probably copy an paste a large portion of your post requesting information about 18X, had that been in the proper place it probably would have served as a half decent intro. I know you are probably new to forums, but due to the high incidence of trolls we have to ensure you are a real person, not to mention we like to have an idea who we are talking with.

Welcome to the site, good luck in your endeavors.

More information about me...

Cliffs
- Enlisted in the USMC as an 0311 in 2010 at 20 years old
- Enjoyed my time in, my only regret is that I didn't do it two years prior
- Went to Afghanistan once and then a UDP to Oki
- Spent time in North Korea and floated around the Philippines for support after Typhoon Haiyan
- The war is dead and I hate the peace time Corps, also can't stand all the bullshit grunts have to go through in the rear
- VEERP'd a couple months ago and I'm going to give school a second shot with GI Bill

My original question was regarding the 18x contract. I'm guessing that the length of the contract is six years, however, if I for some reason get dropped is there any kind of contract claus I could have that would let me back into the civilian world? The last thing I want is to be stuck as a regular infantryman again, and for six years into my thirties. Four years was enough int he Marines. The answer is probably no but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Also, would I have to go through OSUT? I know if I immediately transferred over like a lot of people here I wouldn't have to. But is there a certain number of years that have to go by before I have to go through Army basic?

Welcome.
Good luck.
I would suggest going the National Guard route.

OP:

I disagree.

I would suggest not going any route until you realize what making a commitment is. Whether you are what WE are looking for is still to be mostly determined but you aren't impressing any SF guy with the, "if I don't make it I am gonna cut and run" mentality. We have enough guys on ODAs who feel that way about getting to the CIF or to a MFF or scuba team to add another one to the mix.

Unless you misspoke, in which case please feel free to correct it, we do not need anyone whose integrity is so low that will back out on a commitment because they consider it to be beneath them now.

Oh, welcome to SS.
