Marine Scout Sniper Chuck Mawhinney

The Scout Sniper community lost a legend. One of, if not, the deadliest Marine Scout Sniper ever, Chuck Mawhinney passed away on February 12, 2024 at age 75.

In Vietnam, he is know have killed 103 enemy combatants with an additional 216 probable kills, all on a single enlistment. He’s quoted as saying “If they had a gun, they’re going down.”

Very sad to hear this. Met him years ago along with Ed Eaton at a party. Ed was very quiet, almost shy.

Second, I met him and Carlos Hathcock in the mid-90s at a fundraiser at Camp Lejeune. They were signing swag for a raffle. I did get an autographed pic of Hathcock. Mawinney seemed much more gregarious than Hathcock.
