Taking Iwo required inflicting a 99% casualty rate on the enemy force of almost 22,000.
U.S. casualties were 6,821 killed, 19,217 wounded
The attached interview is 20 minutes, but worth it. Watching it makes me think back to the idiots in Wisc. NG...what would they say to these men if they saw that photo? Nothing "fun" about funerals now is there?
