That's my fancy way of saying hello or good morning.
My name is John, 24yo, and I sometimes make odd references to children's books.
I sought out ShadowSpear because SpecialTactics.com has been down for as long as I can remember. Hoping to get some useful information and some much needed wisdom from these here forums.
For the past 3 years I've been working in Smog Jungle, China. I was hired out of college by a state-owned enterprise to structure their new subsidiary and eventually served as their Chief Strategic Officer for a brief period. At the beginning of my second year there my friend and I started our own financial services firm. Right now I'm taking one month away from China, the first vacation I've had in 3 or 4 years, can't remember, to take the GMAT and bang out BSchool apps before round 2 deadlines in January.
I've wanted to be a PJ since the last days of high school, but I put that on hold out of familial duty, among other responsibilities. During my time in China I met a few upper level execs with military backgrounds who helped put me back on track. Coupled with the lack of fulfillment in my day to day work, I realized this is probably the best window for me to get out from behind the desk and pick up some good habits.
My biggest influence in my interest in the military is my grandfather. He caught the tail end of WWII as what we would now call a minor, the whole Chinese Civil War, and fought in Korea, albeit on the wrong side, before taking a command with 2nd Artillery in the PLA. Luckily, he skipped Vietnam. What drew me to service were his war stories, from the morbid to the hilarious; about how his whole battery (he was arty) being wiped out by walking barrages and airstrikes, how he and a load of other officers offered to take pay cuts because the military budget was stretched too thin, and how, upon encountering his first banana, ate it with the peel because nobody instructed them how to eat it. Never once did he mention his year end bonus, how many mistresses he had, or how influential his friend is within the artistic community. It was about the men he worked with and the work itself, honest and true.
Quite long for an intro, and probably more information than necessary, but I'm in an essay writing mood and you fine folks are my victims!
Looking forward to time well spent here,
John
P.S. - Apologies if it reads like the work of a douche. Years in finance will do that to you - they force feed you the Flavor Aid.
