SWCS Academic Handbook

Awesome!!

What page is the new enabler assessment, selection, and training program for support troops going to theater ARSOF assignments? I must have overlooked it. I'm sure it's in there somewhere, seeing how this is THE Special Operations Center of Excellence and all.

Come on now.... do you think we'd really take a que from the other Special Operations elements and start a support soldier A&S after we've been complaining about money/time for the start up after a decade or more? This is sequestration time Mara. Love the sarcasm by the way.

NOFORN!! :p

The links worked for me, that's how I saw that USASWCS doesn't care about the enabler side of the house.

Still.

Did I read in there correctly that MOS 18D training will change from 50 to 14 weeks to align the Q courses?

No No No!!! Its a misspeak Sir.

The SOCM (Spec Ops Combat Medic) portion of the course is being extended and the SFMS (SF Medical Sergeant) portion is being shortened. They made this change to provide Ranger, 160th, etc more clinical medicine training at the schoolhouse. That said, there are quite a few in positions of authority who want to decrease the SF Medics scope of practice to that of a SOCM.

What is the reasoning behind this? Outside of it maybe being just a money issue, I don't see why they would decrease the scope of practice for an 18D. It seems pretty obvious to me why they get the extra training, a Ranger medic doesn't have to worry about providing dental care or veterinary services during VSO's like the 18D. I always thought that having those 18D's with the extra medical expertise really brought a lot of capability to an ODA conducting UW/FID.

Once again an NCO squares me away and I'm thankful. Thanks bud!

Edit: I liked the post since it answered my question but I dislike decreasing the scope of practice

It's cute to see you guys on the teams and in the field thinking you know more than someone who hasn't been on a team in more than 10 years...
