Short reviews of the last two books I've read:
Shattered by Jonathon Allen and Amie Parnes chronicles Hillary Clinton's failed 2016 run for president. Great book though the authors have an obvious "progressive" bias, but they still call out Hillary, Bernie, Debbie Wasserman, and the DNC as a whole. Hillary's campaign was run with analytics (think Moneyball for you sports fans) and a large dose of hubris. Well worth your time and money if you're into politics or the election and how she lost.
The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson is a former NYT best seller that covers the 1893 World's Fair and H.H. Holmes, a serial killer. Larson swaps between the Fair (largely through Daniel Burnham, the guy who ran the show) and Holmes' life as he lures and kills mostly women in his "castle." It along with Homicide: Life on the Streets are the two best books I've read in the last 10-12. Larson's style is descriptive without giving in to "flowery words" as I like to call extraneous garbage. Just a solid book worth your money and time.
