War is boring often has good stories, but they lean left and tend to put a negative spin on their stories.

They missed a few points (IMO) writing the story.
1. Some aircraft are maintained so they can rejoin the fleet if necessary (like these F/A-18's, or the B-52 the AF pulled). So the folks at D-M saved us millions of dollars by keeping the planes in good shape.

2. Other aircraft at D-M go in as parts birds (these are usually aircraft that are no longer in production and are being retired), pulling functional parts off and returning those parts to the fleet ( C-5A's and F-16's for example),

3. Other aircraft go in to be parted and scrapped, these are usually types that have been retired.

So I am not alarmed that F/A-18's are returning to the fleet. Good job by all involved.

I'm not alarmed either. The Corps has a good track record when it comes to maintainance. When you're something of a Bastard Child when it comes time to pass out the goodies, you learn to take care of what you've got.

One of the guys in my group at the SOS Residency course was from DM, in the desert. The aircraft there are not junked, as is often thought. great pains are taken to preserve the war birds out there. There are B-52s out there with fewer hours in their airframes than some we have in their right now.
