These are a few of the local fires rampaging through Northern Cal, and for men who want to watch the world burn, their favorite rock group. 32 dead, about 400 missing, unsure how many displaced. Friends who live 60 miles away in Santa Rosa evacuated last Tuesday and were able to return home yesterday. The air quality since Sunday's been very rough, ashes floating through the air all the way to San Francisco.

The Atlas fire, threatening Fairfield 30 miles North from here is a scorcher. This was an aluminum engine block. Apparently, aluminum melts at 1200 degrees:
