Today marks the 50th anniversary of the day that 1st Recon Bn lost their battalion commander, LtCol William Leftwich, and the Marines of Team Rush Act during a dangerous emergency extraction mission in Vietnam. LtCol Leftwich was an extremely well respected commander who personally led every emergency extraction mission in his battalion. The Marine Corps presents the best company commanders in our corps with the Leftwich trophy in his honor. Today we honor the brave Marines of 1st Recon and HMM-263.
