I may be a bit older than most seeking to receive mentoring regarding the 18x program, but I am hoping that the saying is true. That saying being, "Prior planning prevents piss poor performance." I have spent the bulk of my adult life in universities trying to become a well read individual, but I want to be a well rounded soldier instead. I have been researching what it takes to be a member of the US Army special forces as well as hovering these forums for a few months. I wanted to wait until I did a bit of soul searching before signing up to this site as not to waste any advice or guidance willing to be given to me. I am currently working with a recruiter out here in Charlotte NC to prepare for the 18X program. At 29 it is now or never to go 18x, so I want to give it everything I have to be the best I can be.

Welcome, and good luck with the 18X options. My buddies who were successful "coming off the street" were all older than 25. If you haven't already, a good read of Dick Couch's "Chosen Soldier" is worth your time. I'm guessing you've already read it, but if not, will give you a good grasp of the Q course as it stood (since they are all always in flux). Best

Thanks for the advice. I have not read but I will look it up today.
Just a preview - Couch was a SEAL and while in his 50's (I'm guessing here) he ran alongside a class of 18x candidates from SOPC through Robin Sage. He did a breakout with each of the individual MOS's so you get an idea of B, C, D, etc... Gives you an idea of who comes out for the course... and who is successful on that particular run. Plus, he is a literate author. Easy read.
