Any 101st abn historians?

7th ID (Lightfighters) was a great, hardcore unit

The 7th went into Honduras in '88 along with elements of the 82nd. The latter jumped onto the airfield at Palmerola. Fucking awesome. At the time I thought they were going to hop the fence into Nicaragua and roll up the Sandinistas. Turned out they didn't have to, the commies backed off.

7th ID (Lightfighters) was a great, hardcore unit and Ord was a fantastic place to live and train. I'll never understand why we off'ed the 7th ID and FT Ord. it was peanut butter and jelly. Now, most of that place is a college and civilian housing. But the PX is stll there for retirees and DLI students.

They were victims of the post-cold war drawdown and BRAC. Shame.

California Environmental laws killed Ft Ord.
Make it difficult to train
and DoD will eventually leave.
Three (?) AF Bases closed and others downsized.

There's a lot of things you cannot do on Camp Pendleton, too.
