Army Tier 1 Unit Cancelled?

This sounds a lot like the "Dick-Pic Six" scandal from a few years back.

The original story first came out on SOFREP - and there are lots of different opinions on the veracity of their content - then later when the 15-6 effort started to take shape even the Army Times posted their version of the shenanigans...

I'm sure it was all just an exaggeration. Units like these don't tolerate shenanigans.

"White SOF" innuendo and and accusations of sexual scandal is cheeky - and fun
SMU innuendo and and accusations of sexual scandal is cruel, and tragic

So this article is either a segment of or related to the book The Fort Bragg Cartel, which seems to be using the situation with Billy Lavigne as a entry point to broader accusations against the unit.

If you don't remember the name, Lavigne was the unit guy who got into a situation with a his friend Mark Leshikar (a 19th group GB) at his house and shot him in 2018; Lavigne was found dead with Tim Dumas (retired warrant officer) outside Bragg in 2020, apparently in a drug deal gone wrong.

The book is trying to be Code over Country, but seems to have replaced the sourcing and professional writing Matt Cole had with sensationalism.

One example from the free preview. The woman Nicole is Leshikar's sister recounting meeting Lavigne
He also introduced her to his dog, a tautly poised, hyperalert Belgian Malinois named Rocky that had been one of the unit’s working animals. Nicole wanted to know why it had no teeth. Lavigne told her that its titanium dentures had been surgically removed upon retirement because the dog had been trained to attack and had grown accustomed to feeding on the flesh of people killed in special operations raids, including being allowed, “as a treat,” to eat human brains.

Metal teeth? Sure, MWD/any bite dogs losing teeth in the line of work happens, and you can get doggie dental work to replace them

Regularly eating people and getting brains as treats? Can't say that sounds like anything other than a dude trying to sound extreme for a chick who doesnt know better.

I knew there was something special about the diets they gave them. Never knew what it was but now we all know the secret formula. Turns out Kim Jung Un has had the secret this entire time.

One of my instructors at Gunsite whom I still stay in contact with, thinks it is wise to pay attention to what the opposition is doing. He's a retired LTC, USMC and I think he's called it battlespace awareness in the past.

I'm glad that he does it for us and then breaks it down piece by piece so we won't have to bother because I for sure cannot stomach it being within their echo chambers these days.

I stopped at Rolling Stones Investiga....nope, not today fake news. Not today.

It's a bunch of real news.

An operator who murdered his friend was heavily involved in drugs

That operator was found shot with a CW4 allegedly involved in drugs

A local cop was charged for drug running and he was working with the CW4

3rd Group had a drug trafficking issue a few years ago

Now, who knew what and how many people were involved isn't something known. It could be organizational rot like the accusation seems to be, or it could be (more likely) that a small group of dudes were secretly engaged in extra-curricular activities.

Even a broken clock is right at least twice a day, but they still don't get a pass for what they've done in the past.

I lose the thread on how this connects to the SMU?

gotcha. The stuff from 2018.
Yup. He was killed in 2020 with a retired QM warrant (Dumas) while (allegedly) trafficking cocaine.

The cop found guilty of drug trafficking in 2023 specifically says he provided shipments from the Zetas to Dumas, who claimed he had members of "SF and SOF units" also working with him.

There were definitely dudes at Bragg involved in criminal activity. How widespread/known that was is up for debate, though I'm skeptical it was as common as it seems this author is suggesting. I'm also not buying the conspiracy angle that keeps popping up.
