Army Tier 1 Unit Cancelled?

you also had beautiful accommodations at Camp Pendleton!"
Spent some time at FT Ord. I didn't get as much time to enjoy it as I wish because I was always there for training... and that we did. The 7th ID was super hooah, the post was both beautiful and a great place to train
and it sucks that the place got BRAC'd. The place has great history and I'm thankful I got to experience it and be a small part of it.

It's the atmosphere that was the issue with both posts. As if the rest of US Army is there for them and we're all just peasants and uncouth bogans in uniform.

You have to see the bigger picture here, some units have terrible institutionalizations that have been handed down to proteges and never stopped.

Maybe that's part of my problem. As a corpsman the world was my oyster. Not only did I forego institutionalization, but I could drift in a sea of units and services. When I was commissioned it was a bit different because the opportunities became much fewer and further between. I don't know.

Man, some of the places that were BRAC'd were just awesome, and a real shame they got closed down.

I spent 5 years at NTC. A lot of people consider it the most dreadful post in the Army. I loved it and even extended to stay the last year. The OPFOR mission was a blast, lots of time off, and so much to do in SoCal. The desert is my jam. Most of those who hate it only visited and didn't live it.
You had a better assignment then.

11th ACR's RSS CSM was an absolute POS. The 916th SB also had a POS CSM. Being in one of the only FORSCOM companies in a non deployable Bn was horrible. Bad leaders one right after the other and being run down and shady things happening made for a shit tour.

Not a dig on you but RSS CSM used to keep the regiment until past 2000 at night on Fridays because all the passes and RA's weren't done to his liking and had to be redone. The longer he kept us, the more probable that the released soldiers would speed and be reckless trying to leave post and Ft Irwin Road into the 15 and beyond.

When 699th got back from Kuwait from their first deployment and got orders at the six month mark that they were deploying again, I was transferred because they needed bodies bad in every MOS and ranks. Their 1SG from that deployment to Kuwait? Was relieved but found a way back in. He was relieved AGAIN the follow on.

The Top we got for the next deployment after that one? Was great until he had a heart attack. But we had a great platoon SFC takeover until we got back home and a TRADOC bitch coward needing that E8 Top position checked off made his way and fucked with us and we hadn't even come off the plane yet. I could go on, but that unit was not fun to be in and our sister Maint. Co. that flipped flopped with us on deployments had the same issues.

And having been stationed there myself and elsewhere, they had a good reason to dislike NTC.

I agree, but I enjoyed the part of being "spoiled" by the Army while I was with the 101st. It was nice to get whatever you needed/wanted for the mission for once.
When the 101st and 82nd subordinate units are far from their masters, they're alright. Same for 10th's climb to retardation as well. Having been in divisions most of my time in, you are so protected from the BS that you think it's normal not to be messed with. Get put into a non divisional unit and subordinate to the above aforementioned, WTF is going on here, we wear the same uniforms, brosephs...

Ouch. Goes to show you that mileage may very. I was an E1 to E5 while there and had the best NCOs and Officers I ever worked with.

As one of the first 19D's stationed in the 101st' RSTA experiment, it was clear we would be stepchildren to the infantry. They made it clear we weren't completely welcome there. For that, I think we were underutilized and possibly a reason the RSTAs didnt pan out. So I think some of it is MOS warfare. But we gained some mutual respect and in hindsight I am glad I got to serve and deploy with the Rakkasans.

I've seen cav doing it to another cav unit. My first time at NTC wasn't a duty station, it was a rotation. The 3rd ACR's CSM briefed us and gave a breakdown of what the 3rd ACR's mission was to III Corp and what was to be expected of us. While telling us that 3rd ACR was III eyes and ears, some douche yelled "Fuck Off" from outside. The culprit? It was 1st CAV's CSM. After he excused himself, which of course the inevitable argument that was a very loud ready to fight then and there for the cav honor or some other dumb shit, haha.

Cavtastic 1st fucking cav, the guys who ignored 1AD's advice with Iraq and caused us all to get extended...the same cavtasic idiots who brought a private purchased external thumb drive and infected the system at Irwin with viruses during a rotation and caused all of the DoD to block off USB port use...is one fine example of how institutionalized inbreeding from commander to incoming commanders, happen.

My experience with 1st Cav in Afghanistan left me with contempt for the unit. Minus one or two individuals my experiences with the 101st were fantastic. 25th ID (I was never around their airborne brigade) had very good enlisted and dogshit officers. I'm sure everyone's mileage varies which is 100% fair and I don't doubt yours.

III Corps as a whole is clown shoes.

The day I watched a Specialist tell a 2LT he will "fucking curb stomp you" if the LT touched the Specialist's weapon started me on that path and it never improved. The whole platoon stood there, silent. It was ignored even by the NCOs. Pure trash.

Good Lord.

I don't think I have been in any unit where that would have flown. I HAVE heard a staff NCO tell a lance corporal "if you look at me that way again your family is going to be rich from collecting your life insurance."

Seriously, that is bad when not a single NCO or even a peer stepped up.

I was walking back from breakfast with another contractor (former 82nd bubba) and we stopped dead in our tracks to watch.

Nothing. It was like the exchange never happened.

We'd pass the 2LT coming from or going to chow because they staged across the street for convoys. LT walked with his head down, no one saluted this guy, it was pathetic. I can't imagine his company commander was unaware of the LT's behavior, and that of his platoon.

Yeah, not one person even looked up during the whole 30 second exchange. That line was one of several things said. Again, it was pathetic.

Towards the end of my 1SG career, I was extremely exhausted with the lack of support from upper- level leadership. Maybe it was my unit, but EM's and Jr NCOs could nearly get away with murder because commanders needed warm bodies overseas. It was a numbers game, and I think, counter-productive. CSMs and Commanders be like..

We had a professional private try to tell an Army Reserve E-8 with MSG stripes, that he wasn't a real Master Sergeant. I ain't never seen a soldier sweeping the desert ever until that time.

This was when we were training up for another OIF rotation back in 2008, and they attached the Army Reserves to us during a rotation we piggybacked on.
