My bday is 11/8. My parents swore that had I been born two days later I would have been named Chesty. Like many Marines of his generation, my dad revered Puller.
Quick anecdote: My Corpsman in Vietnam, Doc Bill Donoghue, prior to deployment, worked as a corpsman at the old Philly Naval Hospital and was one of the caregivers of Puller's son, Louis Jr...who'd suffered horrific wounds from a 105 tripwire device. His stories of Junior's ordeal at the PNH were grim and sobering to say the least.
