FORT BRAGG, N.C. (USASOC News Service, June 15, 2010) – Members of the media are invited to cover the change of command ceremony for the Special Warfare Medical Group (Airborne) at 8 a.m. June 17 at the John F. Kennedy Plaza on Fort Bragg, N.C.
Col. Robert Lutz will assume command of the SWMG(A) from Col. Jeffrey Kingsbury, who has held command of the unit for two years. The SWMG(A) is a joint organization, responsible for training special operations medics from the Army, Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps.
Kingsbury will move on to Womack Army Medical Center, also here at Fort Bragg. Lutz will take command of the SWMG after serving as the U.S. Army Special Operations Command’s Deputy Surgeon.
Special Forces medics initially attend the SWMG(A)'s 11-month Special Operations Combat Medic Course to gain a vast expertise in advanced trauma and health care. These Soldiers go on to join Special Forces teams in various units across the active duty Army and Army National Guard. Service members from across the Department of Defense return to the SWMG(A) every two years for required refresher training.
These medics possess all the training of a licensed paramedic as well as advanced trauma training, capped by practical training in civilian trauma facilities in Virginia and Florida.
The SWMG(A) is part of the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center & School, the premiere training center for Civil Affairs, Psychological Operations, and Special Forces.
