Haven't read it all yet, but it appears Ian and Brian Murtagh didn't get along that well...
I'll have to read Lex McAuley's book again, I've got a feeling it was Infantry centric (like all good military books). That's certainly the best account of 102 Battery's defence that I've read.
Major snafus in intel, comm, coordination, defensive positions...and it's up to the boys to fight their way out of it. And they did. 52 NVA KIA vrs 8 friendly KIA? As sad as it is to lose some Brothers, they gave better than they got.
Murtagh seems to get most of the blame for the fuck-ups...and the official history is apparently rife with inaccuracies.

McAuley uses a little too much jargon/slang IMO, but it’s the definitive account for sure.
