FNG

Hello everyone, I'm honored to have the opportunity be writing this 'introduction post.

First I'd like to get out of the way that I'm not and operator and never have been, my cell sign Mike Delta are simply initials. Life has it's twists and turns and the opportunity to try out for SF/Group wasn't in the cards for me. A friend who was a bit older than myself suggested I enlist and go 95B instead of 11B and his arguement was convincing. I actually was set to join the Marines on a 6 year QEP (Quality Enlistment Program), however between my friends suggestion, my fathers blunt directive (Army 65-69) and the fact that I'm a descendent of Kit Carson, I went Army and graduated MP school in 1990 as Distinguished Honor Graduate. This was a very defing moment in my adult life especially being that I had what some may call a 'difficult youth' being homeless at 17. I used to jokingly say Uncle Sam was my dad. Anyway, during OSUT our drill sergeant said something along the lines of "being an MP in todays Army ensures that you'll be deployed", he was right. As a graduation gift it looked like I was going to Sniper School, but instead I got orders to go to Southwest Asia for Operation Desert Shield and Storm. Despite missing out on Sniper School I was later selected for SRT, which I loved and also became a Senior Military Customs Inspector; why soldiers would want to bring grenades from the battlefield onto an aircraft that is taking them home, I'll never know..

I enjoyed most of my time in the military, however I detested garrison duty of any kind and was completely at home in the field, for training or deployment.Years later, after my time in service I had conversations with former Special Forces soldiers and they agreed that a disdain of pine needle pick up in spit shined boots is a common trait. Now, I'm 47 years old and often think about the military and honestly regret not trying out for SF, it certainly wasn't because I avoided it.

I recently joined my local VFW and applied on this site because like many I miss the camaraderie that we once had in the military. Nearly all of my friends from early life are military, from Marine Recon, to other military police. Some I've managed to stay in contact with and others I miss dearly. Especially a few that didn't make it home from the desert on their own accord.

I work in the music and entertainment business now; however, I still keep up my PT and for my age can still achieve a perfect 300. Also, going to the range regularly keeps me in touch with other soldiers who still have an interest in keeping up their Marksmanship and much to my wife's chagrin I'll be breaking in a brand new pair of Rocket Fins at springs today! So, the flame still burns.

With that, again I'd like to mention that I am honored to have the opportunity to write this introduction post. I hope that those of you in the community will find me to be a worthy addition and I look forward to learning and sharing. Thanks for reading.

Welcome. Very weak intro, re-read the "New Members Start here" thread and try again.

This is not a suggestion. All other members, Welcomes only.

Done. I will keenly focus on the rules and regs going forward. Thank you for your guidance, my bearing has been adjusted.

Welcome. I appreciate you accepting some course correction without taking it personally. This is a really good site with some solid SOF and non-SOF professionals. I really enjoy how civil and inclusive it is compared to other forums. We achieve that through our guidelines and culture. You will enjoy it here. We range from SOF veterans to military family members and young people aspiring to serve our nation. Everyone is welcome and respected. That hasn’t been my experience across all the internet military forums. This is the only one I participate in for that reason. I’ve been able to mentor some young Marines here and help them in ways that wouldn’t be possible without this site. Hang around! You’ll like it here.

Welcome, at 47 you just have to show up for a PT test to get a 300

I hear ya. One look at what is under my headgear/cover and the scoring NCO would take pity. All kidding aside though, my goal is to be able to achieve a 300 at 50 using 21-25 yo stats...if you don't see any posts from me, look me up in the obituary

Thanks for that. I'm just the new guy, adapting to a new-ish situation. That is my role at this time and I readily accept that. Throughtout my time in service if I made an error I owned it and took the heat. This attitude served me well. Thanks for the welcome note. One of my buddies from back on the block was Force Recon (Reagan years), they kept him busy.
