We are Marines first, so the first step towards becoming a Marine Raider is to become a Marine. If you are not a current active duty Marine, please contact a Marine Corps recruiter to get started.

All on the same page.

Look, you're 16 so you probably don't know what you don't know or how to find it. That said, you have a computer in your pocket, multiple search engines, and a basic desire of what you want. Be a Marine? Buy a car? What movie to see this weekend? A recipe for pork chops?

1. Be a freaking teenager without going to jail.
2. Talk to a recruiter.
3. Listen to the recruiter and do what they say.
4. Do some research so you know what questions to ask us, the recruiter, whoever. Learn some self-sufficiency.
5. Be a teenager without going to jail.
6. Your goals might be different or even out of reach by the time you're 18. Food for thought.
7. Be a teenager without going to jail.

I found all that before I posted I just wanted to ask people who have actually done it for some advice on how to get there and I can’t talk to a recruiter for another 3 months

The...3? (I'm running off of my memory) Raiders we've had here haven't been on in a few years; certainly not in the last 6-10 months. We have one or two Force guys who pop in and out, but one of them is a pretty busy guy and might not see this thread.

Generic advice I'd give anyone your age, especially with only 90 days before you can speak to a recruiter. Run, swim, lift, and be a teen. You're 16, no point in trying to ruck or anything that can break your body down as you are still developing. You're probably doing these things already, but they bear repeating. Academically, focus on math and English, especially writing. Learn a foreign language. Do basic things and a recruiter will help you with your focus areas, career guidance, etc.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Welcome to the board and good luck on your journey.

Got a podcast you might want to check out- Ones Ready has selection information that's usually geared towards AF bubbas, but there is alos a lot of content for candidate mindset, family issues, mental preparation, physicial prep, and guests that span all of Special Operations. Might even see a board memeber or two on there.

Hey man, I was you when I was 16-17. Itching to join, focused on the future. I went to SF Selection at 18, and you know what I never wished I’d done more of as a 16-18 year old? Prep for Selection. I wished I’d had sex with more than one chick, hung out with my buds more, surfed more, had more fun. Go live your life for the next couple of years. Play sports, bang strange, get a physically difficult job, go on a trip somewhere. Read books about what you want to do, and get in shape, it’ll make you more likely to bang chicks. Bottom line, be a 16-18 year old. The military will be open to you for like 18 more years. Enjoy the good old days while you are in them.
