I am not sure if this query has been posed here before. I searched in vain and I apologize in advance if it startles redundancy. A little background....
I am an E5, 4 yrs TIS in the process of reclassing to 35P. I'm currently at DLI then GAFB and BAC (God willing) before next assignment. I held a combat arms MOS and liked the OPTEMPO, so I'm interested in the tactical side of SIGNIT. I have read a lot of threads in this blog and came to the conclusion that either SOT-A or Regiment will be my best bet. I have read a lot on SOT-A but not a thing on the 35P's in Regiment. I garner going to group as a SIGNIT does not guarantee me SOT-A, If I'm not mistaken there are 4 of them in a BN and they will obviously pick the experienced soldiers (that will bar me since its going to be a new field for me, though I know I have to prove myself). So it may take a while. Whereas in Ranger Batt, they're always looking for 35P. Here's where the questions arise
1. Without obviously violating OPSEC, how's day-to-day life for a SIGNIT in Batt? Is most of the time spent in the field with other rangers or in the SCIF?
2. Do you get enough shoot-house time like the 11series or do they also have "just another support guy" mentality when it comes to range time?
3. Are the chance of getting schools like MFF, PFDR, SERE-C, LLVI and STG as good as in group?( cadres here tell me most schools are easier to get in group except ranger school cause SF dudes have dibs)
4. What are the chances of a SIGNITs in RRC instead of just MICO?
5. Since I wont have an option 40, what will be minimum commitment time before one can one leave?
6. Are SIGNITs primarily in RSTB in Benning or do they get attached to line companies and/or E Co or HHC in 2nd and 3rd BNs too?
I know this' a handful, I apologize, just making sure I make informed choices. Your response will be higly appreciated.

If you're already worried about being able to leave, then neither the 75th nor Group are honestly good places for you to even think about going.
By leaving I meant minimum time to serve there before I move on to follow up assignment for career progression like MLI, Drill or AIT PSG that is in the 35P pipeline.

Don't worry about that stuff if your serious about serving in a SOF unit.
Go elsewhere if career progression is your number one criteria.

My eyes hurt from reading that.

I had an OST while on TDY a few months ago, good dude, he expressed some of the same gripes that have been expressed here about the issues encountered by SOT-A's.

Redleg13 PM me, I'll try and help.

SIGINT, good grief! Herbie doesn't like to kick doors! ;-)

I meant to say I had an OST in class while on TDY.... :ROFLMAO:

There is pretty much no chance of you getting MFF as a SOT-A in group unless for some random reason there becomes a need for it.. for some reason. I think that our job is cool/fun but we ain't that special. We just support the ODA and I believe even some of them encounter issues getting to MFF due to the influx of students? (Check my math, but the Army's MFF was/is servicing other branches right?) I haven't heard of too many guys getting Pathfinder, but I have seen guys go to RSLC, SERE, and Ranger. As far as LLVI and STG training go you will get lots in Group.. I can't speak for Regiment but I have no doubt it's the same. Also you will get the chance to attend SFAUCC and if you are lucky SOTIC, and ranges of course(we are not shooters, but I personally have been able to shoot quite a bit and learn some good things) I will also advise you that.. As far as 35P's are concerned in Group, we are just assigned here.. It is and has been an HRC nightmare and at any time we can just get the boot to the unit down the street if HRC says "Hey btw.. New MTOE. Good luck." At regiment you are selected and therefore.. belong? Also I know that a few of the AD Groups are overmanned and that presents it's own problems with training and such. I believe that is the long and short of it...(long)

I have heard that and that's the nice thing about being selected.. There is also apparently a difference in the way Group and Regiment work in terms of the INTs they prefer or use. (or so I have heard) But anyway.. All things to consider.
