Hi everyone, my name is Felicia and I am a civilian who came across your site via an article online..."Are you dating a real soldier or a fake? The soldier on the site suggested that if we really wanted to know if we were seeing someone legit that here would be a good place to look...so here I am.

I met this guy, Michael Ronald, on a dating site about a month ago. He is a sweet talker and we really did hit it off really well. I had been talking to a lot of guys and he was the first that just seemed so real. He told me that he had joined the site to find true love, a serious relationship and hopefully a companion for life. These things suited me well since I had been talking to what seemed like a bunch of "horny teenagers" instead of adult males. Anyway, we started talking via the dating site and then we moved over to Yahoo Messenger and our Yahoo email. I opened a Yahoo account just to talk to guys so that they didn't get my personal email account. I thought that was safer.

Once Michael told me that he was army, I started doing my research because I knew that there was so many scams out there and I didn't want to be a victim to a cruel joke. I don't know if I have just read so many scamming information that I am second guessing myself because he and I feel so perfect for each other and I am running scared or if I should be leery. I have at many times told him that I didn't want to be scammed and have called him a scammer before he even before he asked for any money. He got very upset with me and wanted to know why would I think that. He said " why would he be wasting his time for money? That I was using what is going on in the environment on him."

This is some information that he has told me: Michael is currently deployed in Syria on a mission. When we talk he uses a Radio PC (a classified device). He has been actively serving for 8 years with different infantry units, from Camp Pendulous, CA (1st battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, and 2nd battalion, 1st Marine Regiment) and Camp Lejeune, NC (3rd battalion, 6th Marine Regiment). He is presently a Combat Engineer specialized on Combat, Acuri C-130 and other war planes maintenance. He is A34 Uniform (A34) which is a signal support systems specialist, as a A34 uniform it is his job description entails working on radios. He has given me an overseas address as an Elmira, NY address. He has told me that since he was using a secured device that the information above was detected by his CO and he had to explain why he gave me the information. He told me that is was against protocol to tell me the information since he was on an active mission. His mission over there will last until 2015.

When we first talked he was able to get online almost everyday for either a brief moment to send me an email or to chat for no more that an hour if we were lucky. During one of our chats he was only there briefly when he had to go since they had just received information and he had to be on alert. He never goes into detail about what is happening there...all I get is it is a rough day or the rebels were getting worse. He is always focused on my life and our future together. As of a few weeks ago, he lost his internet connection and has been only able to get online when he borrows one of his colleagues devices, so we are only talking once a week. Yesterday, was the first time that after I asked how we could get him the internet back on his device did he tell me that it would cost $200usd for 2 months and some days and that he only knew this because his one colleague had just had an agent put it back on his device. I told him that I didn't have the money to help him and he said he understood and we would continue talking when we could the way we were.

I did push further for information about the Army Agent. Michael told me that it was a threat to his safety if he accessed his personal account while on a mission, so everything was done through an Army Agent. That he would have to fill out the proper paperwork and have the CO sign off on it and then I would be given the name and address of the agent who is located on an army base in the US. And that it was this persons job to arrange for the internet or travel arrangements for him. (I researched as much as I could until I found information on and Army Agent) . I only say travel arrangements because he wants to come home for the holidays so we can meet and make our relationship real. He told me that he spoke to his CO and was told that he would have to pay for his own travel back but that the Army would do the proper travelling paperwork to get him back into the states. He had expressed his disappointment and hated that it was money that was keeping him from me but he believes that when the time is right he will have the funding needed to see me.

He has sent me pictures of him in uniform in what seems to be him and his unit on an airstrip and I when I have checked them on Google to see if they came up anywhere else they don't. The link to them says that they are from a secured location. He does have Facebook and I checked to make sure that that was legit and it was. I took all the information that personal information that he had given me and did a paid background check which he seemed to pass. I also checked his name and dating site handle against other dating site and he was only on the site that I met him.

To me he does seem legit, but I guess I am just looking for confirmation that he is who he says he is and that the information he gives me is real...And this is what brings me here. Most of you are military and know protocol better than I do. What do you think of this Michael Ronald?

Welcome to the site Felicia, and what I'm about to say next the moderators may either agree or disagree with, but.... here goes. Your intro is less of an intro and more 'What do you guys think of this even though you don't know anything about me.' I doubt that anyone on this site is going to do much research for you in terms of finding out if this individual you are talking to is legit, but would assume that the majority of us will tell you to be careful (I may be wrong on the first part, but we'll see). As you have said, scams do run rampant and people will try to extort money when they can. To me, the story he has given you sounds fishy, but I don't work for or with the Army (or Marines, as the bases referenced belong to the Marines) so I can't say one way or another in regards to what he is or not allowed to do. I will say that the fact that he has been in for 8 years leads me to believe he would know better than to tell you where he is or give you an address without meeting you, but love has led many people to do stupid things. As far as the pictures he has sent you go, rather than search google, I would perform a backwards image search.

Take that as you will, but be careful.

@Felicia37 this is not a thread for your question, I'm locking this thread. Start a new intro thread, with just an intro and then ask your question, I will tell you however that you are being duped.
