I'm currently a high-school student. My father served honorably in the US Army. Despite maxing out his PT scores and attending jump school, he was never assigned to infantry and served his time as an officer in air defense instead. He has always instilled in me a respect for those who take the responsibility to defend our people, our freedom, and our constitution.
I know that this website hosts many current and former service members, and I'd like to thank them for their selfless service (especially those who paid the ultimate price).
It has always been a dream of mine to follow in my father's footsteps and repay the debt I owe my country. Since I was 14, I have perused the contents of boards like ProfessionalSoldiers and ArmyRanger.com; however, I never actively participated in any discussion.
I understand that I'm a guest in someone else's house, and I don't take that lightly, so I'd like to explain a little bit about my motives and intentions for participating in this board.
Over the past few weeks, I've been mulling over something a Ranger wrote. I can't remember the quote verbatim, but here is a paraphrase:
The pursuit of those qualities is why I'm here. The company one surrounds oneself with is a powerful influence on one's character and even though valuable discussions and companions are few and far between in my present situation, I can still do so thanks to websites like this.
Currently I don't exactly know what I'm going to do after college, but my current game plan is to keep my sights on the 10m target and prepare myself for any opportunities which come my way.
Thanks for your time.

A Ranger Tab is not magic dust that the Army sprinkles on promising recruits that turns them into some of the best soldiers in the business. Rather, it is simply a recognition of what they have already achieved.
I've been mulling over this quite a bit lately. My parents have blessed me with fantastic educational opportunities. It would be foolish to squander those resources; college is almost a certainty for me right now. However; that does not mean that I can't challenge and push myself to become a young man of the same caliber as the men who are recognized as SOF. Regardless of whether I'm in the military or whether I'm in college, I can develop my physical capability, character, self discipline, intellectual vitality, and intestinal fortitude to that level. The pursuit of those qualities is why I'm here.
