Hello All,

My name is Zander, you can call me Z. I am a Marine logistics officer interested in joining the SOF/SF community. Currently I am a company commander in the logistics field, though have worked as an infantry logistics officer previously. I have made one deployment to the Musa Qala and Now Zad districts of Helmand, AFG with 2d Bn, 4th Marines.

My initial interest was with MARSOC because that is my current service branch, though I am considering all options available. Currently I am looking into resigning my commission to enlist into the 18X program. Considering I have a wife and 6th month old, this equates to a significant sacrifice, though far from out of the question.

I have proficiency in French and Spanish via a degree in Comparative Literature from UC Berkeley and just enrolled in a Masters of Public Administration with the University of San Francisco.

I am a Level 1 Crossfit trainer and mix Crossfit in with the MARSOC 10 week training program, plus additional swimming and weight training. Not a gifted physical specimen, but I earn what I make.

Look forward to the guidance and mentorship available with the SOF/SF members on this site and appreciate everyone's time in posting.

SF/
Z.

Welcome sir. I wish you wisdom in your decision- especially since you are going into it with a wife/child in the picture, major lifestyle change and new stresses on the marriage. Interesting how I can envy your opportunity at the same time I fear you'll eventually have to choose what's most important to you. (The military or your marriage).

Based on @amlove21 's comment below, I was not as clear in making my point as I wanted to be. What I was trying to say is that the OP is considering taking his family from the lifestyle of a Marine Corps officer, resigning that commission, and going into the Army as an enlisted person for an opportunity to become SF. In no way am I questioning his goals, in fact that is the part of his post that I mentioned I envy, that he has the opportunity to do it in the first place.

Knowing no more than what the OP put in his introductory post, that is not what his young wife signed up for, and now they have a young child just six months of age. Add to that, the "what if factor". What if he does not make it through training, then what? Maybe I am being oversensitive to the topic because of career choices (non-military) I made a few years ago that almost cost me my marriage, but once kids are involved, every decision has to be weighed out against the "what if factor".
