Hey all. My name is Chris Young. I am 29 years old, turn 30 in November, and thought I would look into joining the air force now that they have raised their enlistment age to 39. One of the interests I have would be special operations and so foe the past few months I have been exercising to get into shape for that.

Currently i weigh 180lbs, and am 5'3". I underatand this might not happen and that i may need some waivers and thought i would join this forum to get information on the process.

I know talking to a recruiter is super important, but I want to wait until i am at the weight i need to be and am at a decent level of fitness, because i want to be able to show him that i am serious and dedicated, iried joining the navy in 2009 and the marines in 2013-14 and stopped when i ran into a few issues at MEPS, and i will probably have to explain to my recruiter why i didnt follow through with everything at the time (mostly lack of maturity on my part).

Thanks. I will ask more specific questions a few days down the road, regarding my specific situation, if that is ok. I have a lot of work to do fitness wise, probably 10-12 months or so.

Welcome to the site. Make you you use the search function, a lot of your fitness related questions have been answered already. Hopefully you find some useful information

Thanks.

Yeah. I think my best bet is to get in good enough shape to talk to the recruiter, then talk to him, and see where my options are from there.

So, i just want to apologize if my coming here has wasted anybody's time. I truly do appreciate everything the military does. Given my current weight, and how much weight I am losing (seems to be 2-3 pounds per month), and my goal weight, and how my fitness is improving, i should be able to talk to a recruiter around this spring or summer time frame about doing regular air force things, and attempt to retrain into spec ops later on down the road if i am able to get in.

I just get excitable, which i know isn't a good thing, and i am sorry.

Would it at all be ok to update you guys on my status 6-10 months later once my fitness and weight are better, and when i do go and talk to a recruiter?
