I am a Navy Veteran. I served in the Navy for 4 1/2 years on board the USS Carl Vinson and with JSOC in Iraq. I was in the Aviation field (ABH) but wanted a change of pace so I volunteered to fill and IA billet and got lucky with the JSOC orders. I've always had a SO dream but never chased it. Now that I am out and I've gotten an insider view of the workings of the SO community through my deployment last year, their isn't a day that passes by where I think "What are you doing sitting here when you know you have what it takes to fill and SO role." Like most I wanted to follow the SEAL route. A buddy and me were training hard for it and he submitted his package last year while I was over sea. That's when Usama occurred and the BUDs classes suddenly filled up and prior service where not getting as many chances as before. This kind of shot my hopes down. Now I'm a civilian and Google and forums such as this have become invaluable tools for me and my dream, which has been reunited. I have been drawn to the MI side of the Army and have started talking to a AR recruiter as well as a family member who has been both in the Navy and now in the Army for 18 years or so. My family is being supportive of my decision and now it is up to me to get back up to par, sign the paperwork and serve again. I've always had a SO dream, and I hope with the advice and information all of you are able and willing to share with me I will see this dream become my reality. Thank you to all who have served, you are in my family and my prayers.
