Hello. Active duty Navy, SCPO. Served 19 years so far... the biggest reason I stay in the service... I don't know what I would do without having my shipmates and Chief's Mess around. I would miss them. Tremendously. I'm here on ShadowSpear because I keep reading about the 22.
22.
You know what I'm talking about. The 22 service members who kill themselves every day. 22. EVERY. DAY. I read the ADM McRaven article about it, much like I do most articles I read on the internet, I read it, was affected and did nothing. No action taken. Well, screw that. ONE a day would be ridiculous and heart-breaking, much less twenty-freaking-two. So I started looking into it. We all could make educated guesses on what would cause a service member to commit suicide and yet, there are some out there who would never admit to themselves or others that they may suffer from the same cause. So, that's why I'm here. Because weeks after reading that article and seeing more articles about the same, it still bothers me at soul-scorching level. I realized that nobody knows that I care and I need to change that. I've been through some stuff. Not the same stuff as you, but stuff is stuff what country you're in at the time doesn't matter. I had an SOCM tell me he used to tell his people, "Sometimes, it's okay not to be okay". I just wonder how many service members not only know that but believe it as well.
I'm here to tell this group of service members that I'm here. For you. I know that may sound odd because, really, who the heck am I compared to this fantastic amount of badassery on this page?? However. If you have ever considered or are currently considering becoming a member of the 22, you need to know one thing. I CARE. If you're sitting there thinking all those negative things and believe nothing can ever get better, remember I CARE. I might just be some random person on the internet but remember when you're sitting contemplating all the horrible things, that there's one person out there on this whole big planet who actually CARES about YOU, no matter what.
A complete stranger that cares about you. Think about that for a minute. How many times in your career did you do things that helped complete strangers? They may have never known you were there or have known who you are but you know. You, the complete stranger, helped someone. Changed those people's lives for the good. There's power and a comforting allure in anonymity. I'm going to go out on a limb here and tell you as if you didn't know, you can use anonymity to a distinct advantage. It's my turn to be the complete stranger who helps someone. That's why I'm here. You're always safe in my "house", free from the overly annoying tendency some people have for nosing around for information that you just can't give up for security reasons AND Free. From. Judgments. I will make none. No matter what.
I CARE, you're always welcome in my house and I'll be here. Lurking. Feel free to hit me up.
