Hello,
My name is Robert Mason and I'm 17 years old. I'm currently in the Delayed Entry Program with the United States Marine Corps. I have an 0300 Infantry contract and I ship off August 8th. I plan on doing my 4 years in the Marines and then join the Army with an 18x contract to go Special Forces, which is my goal in life. The reason why I'm joining the Marines first as I have roots in my family with all of them joining the Marines and I want to continue that tradition with me. To help prepare myself for the military, I play sports in my school such as Cross Country, Wrestling, and Track. I joined this community to see what it takes to be in Spec Ops and how to prepare myself to be successful when it's my time to be tested. Thanks

Why is family tradition trumping your real passion?

Welcome.
Thank you for the welcome and i feel like I can do both as I can do my for years in the Marines, then get out then enlist into the Army with an 18x. I imagine it would be difficult at this point to leave the DEP as well

Welcome to the site. This is poor reasoning for someone with the goals you've stated.

Welcome.

Why SF over Raiders if you plan on joining the Marine Corps?
Hello and thank you for the comment. I haven't looked too much into Raiders as I should have. I guess I am doubting myself a bit without because of the swimming, but I need to get out of the mindset if I want to do an Special Operations. I can swim, just not fast or for a very long time, but I can stay above water. I was always a runner, but with my 4 years in infantry, I can get into the mindset and not doubt myself with my weaknesses.

...I can get into the mindset and not doubt myself with my weaknesses.

You need to do your best to "get into the mindset" before you go into the Infantry. I didn't real care for those that I had to develop from the "get-go." You don't have to be Rambo, but you need to have some self-confidence in your abilities.

If you are falling short in your own mind...you would certainly fall short in mine...if you were assigned to me or my team.

If you aren't where you should be, then get there before you go...once your assigned there and in a team isn't the place to have to start.

Take it 25 meters at a time and start setting and achieving some goals now.

Best of fortune to you!

Welcome to SS! May all your dreams come true, and your nights be filled of rampant thread-stalking.
