Hi!

I saw this site while to doing my research and figured and I would see what information I could gather from others personal experience here. I originally commissioned and joined the Air Force for an aeromed evac squadron and I am now currently in school to become a CRNA. I have always had an interest in the special operations side of things, when dabbling with the thought of switching career paths in the past, it seemed my medical commission would make that opportunity very difficult. So I was hoping to gain some information from any special operation medical team members. I have researched a lot on the topic and the internet provides some information, but not a whole lot.

Welcome to SS. Entry to the USAF, will give you a leg up on other Nurse Corps Officers applying for a commission. I'm not sure if you will come in as an o-2, or o-3. Be sure you talk with a Nurse Corps Officer to be sure. As for any SOF positions, the only one I can remember for CRNA's was in New Mexico @ Kirtland AFB, teaching airway managenent. With across the board shortage of nurses, and CRNA's in particular, you will likely be in line for a cash bonus for coming on board, plus specialty pay as well. The shortage is of nurses in nursing positions, not as SOF members. Your need will be in the OR. Perhaps the US Army may have a CRNA-SOF link up; again, talk with an Army Nurse Corps Recruiting Officer.

I wish you the best of luck with your studies, and on the road that lies before you.
