Good afternoon SS,
My name is Mason and I will soon be turning 20 years old and eligible for an 18X contract that I've been waiting on. I'm pretty set on that but this awesome website has opened my eyes to the USMC as well. I am currently a crew leader at a construction company here in Houston, TX. My fiancé and I are expecting our first child (a boy) in May. I came home from work about 6 months ago and realized that I honestly can't stand construction and that its time for me to pursue my dream of getting into the military before the baby is here. I guess you can say I am your typical military wannabee as I've read the countless books on all the SOF groups and teams to help decide which one I would like to try out for. My back up plan (not to quit) but if I was to get injured.. Is to serve with the 82nd Airborne (a privilege) until I can get a shot at SFAS again. I've been pretty set on getting my 18X contract but the more I read the forums the more interested I've started to become in Recon and MARSOC. I'd really like to get in contact with operators of each so I can pick their brain and take in as much advice as I can. Thank you for allowing me on SS as I plan to stay and keep everyone updated on my path to become a SOF operator.

Welcome.

Read, read more, read everything again.
If a question is already posted, read the entire thread it's in, if your question is still not answered, do a little more research, and then post just the pertinent info that you can't find.
Try not to piss off the locals until you've learned the customs. (Hint, you are an alien observer at the moment, and a bunch of the locals are xenophobic and trigger happy.)

Oh, yeah, btw, getting a contract and initial training (OSUT, BAC, SFPC, SFAS, and if selected SFQC) are going to take a while longer than the baby will wait in the womb, just so you know.

Have fun, learn a lot and good luck with your endeavors.

Welcome and good luck. Once you find the path you wish to travel, commit to it 100%. Read all that you can, and include your family every step of the way.

I've been all over the forums soaking up as much as I can before I decide to think about any posts. I also understand about the process taking longer than the birth but I just meant I would like to get the process going. I'm just choosing a route to shoot for so I can 100% commit to it without ever looking back. Thank you for the welcome by the way.

Thank you sir. My main goal is to serve my country to the fullest in whatever way I possibly can while also including my family.
