Japan Stands Up Army Amphibious Unit [Marines]

Interesting that it's an Army initiative considering Japan's experience with amphibious troops of the SNLF, the Special Naval Landing Force, a well organized Marine assault force that originated in the Imperial Japanese Navy.

But then again the MSDF is just a shadow of the once dominant IJN.

Japan is slowly undoing the "defense only" posture siince WWII. It is quietly adding offensive capabilities, with US and some international support, becuase of the threat from China. Personally, I think it is long overdue.

Hard agree there. A tough and bulked up Japanese military that takes more of combat-ready attack posture is just the thing to give the PRC and NK pause. The Japanese bayonet has blooded them both.
