Let's see that shooter

I wiped out a couple of ecosystems of squirrels with my Sears Roebuck single shot bolt action 22 when I was a kid…and continued the slaughter with my Ruger 10/22.

I still have the Umarex/Colt M4 22 that I bought for the youngest when it first came out. I did a paint job on it, slapped on a red dot sight and a VTAC sling, and he was pretty happy with it. At 100 yards it was a tack driver.

It's great practice for shooting the larger calibers and promotes excellent trigger control and range estimation. There's a huge amount of drop between 25-400 yards.
Eh, they like shooting at someone else's leftover broken up clay pigeons, making the rimfire only Texas Star plates go ping and fall, or a few pepper poppers for 22 only go down and up.

Looking at my next project....

thinking of a PSA 5.56 Krink with a Putnik can...I just don't have a AK platform ;-)

Anyone have any experience with PSA's AK family?

This, without the wood furniture and different optics....

Ayup. My advice, get the Arsenal version if you have the money or if on a wife budget and still want to stay happily married, the Zastava version. You'll be much happier with either than the PSA.

I really wish 5.45 was still available in the numbers it had. I would have so liked to to have gotten a true Krink in 5.45 than settling for a 7.62 clone of one version instead.

I have no idea about the availability of 5.45 ammo, but I'd like to own an AK74 rifle and maybe shoot it casually. I'm old school and love the 7.62 × 39.
All I know is that if I am taking anything out that that is a rifle caliber and that caliber begins with the number 7, is going to be definitely on a day that isn't a leg day or a cardio day.

Woof, that weight.

I've never liked AK 47s. I might be smiling, but there's just this chunky feeling (I can't think of a better word) at every trigger pull, no matter what brand.

But...the 74 is a whole 'nother animal. Sweet, sweet shooter. Nice easy rock, like butter. And, Top, last time I checked, 5.45 x 39 is plentiful.

Your math is off. Here's an online company that is a go to for so many people:

Example A, 5.45. Look at how much a 1,000 of it costs and what limited numbers. Take particular note of the brand and that it's a sole source.

Now with example B with 7.62 AK, take note that it isn't just a sole source. Also take note what a 1,000 rounds cost even lesser than and in some cases for less money I am getting 1,200.

No, 5.45 it is not plentiful as it once was.

I really like the simplicity and durability of the platform. I carried an AK when I was OPFOR at NTC and you could field strip it in seconds and almost couldn't fuck it up. Also, anyone saying that an AK isn't accurate is not using it as intended.
