The subject is not a typo. I stumbled across Project CROSSBOW (The Navy and Marines called it "DANNY") today, something I'd never heard of before. The following links do the story more justice than I can, but here's the gist of it:

Marine F4U Corsairs would be used in Europe against V-1 launch sites.

First time I've heard this.

I knew there had been some limited Marine activity in ETO, some Marine officers who were active in OSS...but F4U's? Cool.

A shame they didn't make it over there. Operating Corsairs from CVE's in the North Sea...that would make for quite a challenge.

But, there's a little slice of trivia for you Devil Dogs. MAG-51 vs. Hitler was almost a reality.
