A ‘Talon Standard’ sendoff: 15th SOS crews deliver final MC-130H to boneyard
Sadly everything comes to an end. These aircraft were my job for years, and it’s sad to see them go. There’s nothing quite like them.
It’ll probably be at least a little familiar to those on this site, some more than others. They’ve probably been your taxi to combat a few times.
These aircraft had a storied history, with one in particular earning a Purple Heart for getting its crew out alive during Operation Ugly Baby in OIF. They had definitely seen their years, and were getting old. They started to break more and more, they’d slowly been siphoned off to the boneyard. But now was their time to go. I’ll miss them, and I’ll always be glad I had the chance to work on them while they were around.
If you haven’t read about these aircraft, or what they were capable of, I’d highly recommend it. A good starting point would be the book Praetorian STARShip, which talks about its predecessor the MC-130E Combat Talon I.
I’ll sure miss them. Goodbye old friend.
