He's like a lot of men and women: in extraordinary times he stood up and did a job. A dangerous job to be sure, but he "did the deed" for various reasons.

I doubt those people ever thought they would be legends. Or cared. They drove across deserts. Sailed into the Arctic/ Antarctic. Piloted planes across oceans. Bundled their families into ox drawn wagons for a 1000 miles journey. Jumped out of planes. Crossed a vacation-esque beach under machine gun fire. Sat on a volatile concoction of chemicals and sketchy hardware, and blasted into space. You name it.

We live in a better world because of their actions.
