MOH for MSG Williams

Driven to serve, Williams enlisted into the Army under the 18X Special Forces enlistment program in September 2005.

Some of you prospective enlistees need to read that about a billion times before you ask if being an 18X will prepare you or should you go to the Ranger Regiment first.

Shok Valley, Nuristan Province, Afghanistan

There are a lot of bad places in Afghanistan, Nuristan may be one of the top 3. I think something like 60% of the MOH's to come out of Afghanistan are from the N2K region. That place is nothing but mountains and AK fire(well, add anything carried by the enemy).

When someone earns a MOH on a classified mission does that mean the mission becomes unclassified? Is there a length they have to wait to award it?

Even Afghans fear Nuristanis.

Well done MSG Williams.

Very rare for an enlisted or NCO to get the MOH and live to see it. And it's good to see the Pentagon reviewing awards. A friend of mine (Stephen E. Lawrence) had to wait 40 years to get his Distinguished Service Cross.

Truly Amazing.

I believe the book "No Way Out" by Mitch Weiss & Kevin Maurer is about this mission and ODA 3336. The book did a good job of showing what a dire situation it was. There's another story from this mission about John Wayne Walding, also from Texas, that really stood out for me.
