I am here because I want to a PJ, here is my story.
I originally wanted to be a Ranger,, mostly for the adrenaline as well as for the glory, the training, comrade and of course the service I could give to my country. Later on as I became more libertarian I grew concerned that the military was not the place for me. I was concerned my full time job would be to kill instead of to help people. My reason for joining the military has always been primarily to bring service to others. (Especially Americans but others as well). This is represented in a quote I once heard, "soldiers fight not because they hate what's in front of them, but because they love What's behind them". I don't want to kill, but I will if and only if I save another life in doing so. I first heard about Pararescue when I read Roberts Ridge and heard about the sacrifices made by Jason Cunningham. After a little research I knew I wanted to be a PJ. Pararescue is my calling. It is a career built on helping people, I once wanted to be one of those people who hands out tickets at concerts to ticketless fans Just so I could put a smiles on peoples faces as a full time job, nothing is better then saving lives though. You are still giving a huge service to your country even though you are saving life's instead of taking them, a unique difference from the vast majority of the Armed Forces. The training is 2nd to none, and I always love to learn new things. Travel, I have always wanted to see the world and I get that opportunity in the military. Camaraderie, I can't imagine where camaraderie would be stronger then a special operations unit, especially when there are only a few hundred PJ's. Challenging, I know that it wont be easy, and I don't want it to be, the harder is is the more accomplished I will feel after passing. if I can manage to earn the maroon beret, I know that I made a HUGE accomplishment in life and that my life meant something. Adrenaline, I can't think of a job with more of adrenaline rush then a job that requires you to rescue someone anywhere in the world. Dedication, I know that in order to be a PJ I will have to dedicate my life to training and then to helping people and saving lives, and it us that kind of dedication I live for. That's why I want to be a PJ.

It wont be easy, but that's the point, I am going to begin a training program this September, which will be the beginning of my junior year of high school. I am looking into the Military Athlete training programs. Another challenge of getting into Pararescue is my eye sight, which I am looking into fixing with PRK surgery prior to my enlistment.

This is not at all an insult to people of other branches, or other SOF Units, this is purely my deeply personal reasons, I realize that your Units are just as, and many times more important and more rewarding. I just know that Pararescue is the only career field for me.
